Today, SBM had the opportunity to supply 100 water bottles to a Savannah youth organization called UrbanHope. Unfortunately, we were unable to order our normal SBM bottles, but we were able to get clear bottles from Amazon and customize them. The campers loved them! Thank you to the staff at this organization who devote their time and energy to these amazing children.
Yesterday, SBM distributed around 30 backpacks and water bottles to a City of Savannah Human Services summer camp in the Parc housing complex. All of the campers were so grateful for and excited to use their new backpacks and water bottles for the remaining weeks of summer.
Today, SBM handed out around 200 backpacks to the summer campers at the Habersham YMCA. Since we were running low on water bottles, staff members had the idea of raffling off our remaining 75 bottles, which was a HUGE hit with the campers. The hundreds of smiles on the faces of the campers were the highlight of this handout. This was our biggest handout to date and, sadly, the last of the summer.
Thank you to every staff member at each summer camp, my various helpers, and most importantly, all of you who made this summer possible. Because of your generosity, SBM purchased and distributed 800 backpacks and 700 water bottles to campers across the city, with the $11,695 raised in the 2023 season.
Today was a big day, with around 150 backpacks and water bottles being distributed. SBM handed out these items at Savannah High to the basketball and football camps. We also went right across the street to Savannah Gardens Housing Complex, where a free summer camp was taking place for the youth living in or somehow connected to this affordable housing complex. Thank you to all the Savannah High coaches as well as the counselors at Savannah Gardens for their dedication to Savannah’s youth and their open arms for SBM.
Today, SBM handed out well over 100 backpacks and water bottles at the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club. Thank you so much to the amazing staff at this camp for all of their help during distribution and for such good care taking care of the sweetest campers this summer.
Our last day of handouts with the City of Savannah summer camps was a success! Today, we went to W.W. Law and Delaware Centers, the last two camps out of the 7 camps that the City of Savannah put on this year. Thank you to all the staff at the city camps as well as everyone who helped me with the handouts. There will be more distributions later in the summer!!
Another amazing day of handouts is in the books! Today, we went to Tremont Center and Liberty City Center to hand out more backpacks and water bottles to more amazing campers. Thank you to all the amazing City of Savannah staff for taking care of such awesome kids, and I am looking forward to our last two handouts of the week tomorrow!
Today, SBM handed out backpacks and water bottles to camps at Windsor Forest Elementary School and Crusaders Center. We also happened to run into some seniors at a day program in the same building, and they got some backpacks and water bottles as well. It was amazing to see so many campers who both remembered me and still had their backpacks and water bottles from last year. They were definitely ready for new ones!
Savannah Backpack Mission had its first backpack handout of 2023 today! Thank you to the Tompkins Community Center staff for your help during distribution and hard work to make this summer amazing for each camper at the center.
